NCCDD Mission

Our mission is to ensure that people with developmental disabilities and their families participate in the design of and have access to culturally competent services and supports, as well as other assistance and opportunities, which promote inclusive communities.

NCCDD Five Year Plan (English / Spanish) – Guided by a five year plan the Council directs funding and research to key policy areas, including Health Care, Housing, Transportation, Employment, and Quality Assurance.

History – Begun in 1962, the Council has a long history of speaking up for the concerns, direction, and policies applying to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Council Members – Serving four year terms, the 34 members of the Council represent all of North Carolina. With a membership composed of a minimum of 60 percent being people with developmental disabilities or family members and the remainder state agency, nonprofit and professional representatives, the Council guides all spending awards.

Council Staff – Staff professionals with deep experience in social services and service to individuals with developmental disabilities work closely with Council board members, state agencies and nonprofits to make a difference and touch the lives of individuals with ID/DD.

Quest for Quality – Concerned about successful and efficient outcomes, NCCDD is diligent in measuring the effectiveness of Council programs, getting feedback on the success of grantee projects and in seeking continuous improvement.

Designated State Agency – The NCCDD was established to work closely with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
