NC COUNCIL ON DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES SEEKS
COMMENT ON PROPOSED CHANGE TO ITS FIVE YEAR PLAN
Every year, the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD) examines its existing Five-Year State Plan with the purpose of making amendments that would address emerging issues and strengthen the document concerning programs affecting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. The NCCDD invites the general public and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to comment on one proposed amendment to its plan and the offer other recommendations as desired.
“We believe that regular public comment on our plan and objectives helps make the Council a more responsive and effective organization,” said Executive Director Holly Riddle. “It enables all of us to better understand the initiatives that will be most effective in enhancing the lives of North Carolinians with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.”
In State Plan Section IV, the revised Employment Objective 2 would read as follows: Collaborate with North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services divisions, the NC Community College System, and other organizations, including state and national initiatives (Alliance for Full Participation), to increase awareness of post-secondary opportunities, including access to transition planning, education options and employment (work) opportunities.
The period for comment will conclude on July 10, 2010. To request information on the goals and objectives under review, please contact Melissa Swartz at (919) 850-2901. Comments may be returned to the NC Council on Developmental Disabilities, 3801 Lake Boone Trail, Suite 250, Raleigh, NC 27607, Att: Melissa Swartz, Quality Management – Programs. Comments may be emailed to melissa.swartz@dhhs.nc.gov
This invitation for public comment on new or amended changes adheres to the requirements of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (PL 106-402).
