Grant Awards
The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities is responsible to distribute nearly $1.9 million in federal funds for projects and activities to a wide variety of grantees. Most funds are given out competitively in response to "Requests for Applications" (RFAs). The Council reviews the implementation plan and publishes the awards at least once a year. Limited funding is available on a non-competitive basis.
The Council's goals to advance the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities (see Five Year Plan / Spanish PDF) are often the underlying basis for distribution of RFA funds:

with proper supports, doing meaningful work in the community for competitive wages ("supported employment")

owning or leasing a home and having access to in-home services and supports to live there ("home of your own")

families with children with developmental disabilities obtain necessary supports in raising their child ("family support"); and assisting the student in attending school with his or her peers ("school inclusion")
-
individuals advocating for themselves and playing a leadership role in local, state and national policy making ("Partners in Policymaking")

individuals with developmental disabilities and their families are encouraged to attend conferences, workshops and policy making forums to build their knowledge and leadership skills ("Jean Wolff-Rossi Fund for Participant Involvement")

state and federal resources support all people with DD to live valued lives in the community
fully comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and advance the Supreme Court's community integration mandate -
enhance the control people with disabilities and their families have over the dollars and other resources used to support them ("self-determination," "family support")

people with disabilities have meaningful relationships and friendships
-
policy makers and the public are well informed regarding people with developmental disabilities
people with developmental disabilities to make a contribution to their communities, consistent with their unique strengths, resources, priorities and capabilities -
provide funds for conferences, policy studies, research, technical assistance and evaluation
